Aphrodesia moves to 541 Lounge

The San Francisco-based Afrobeat band Aphrodesia will celebrate the release of its new CD with a show tonight at 541 Lounge (62070 N.E. 27th St., Bend).

The show was scheduled to happen at The Summit Saloon & Stage, but the opening of that new venue on Northwest Oregon Avenue has been delayed because its owners are still working to get permits, according to Rob London, who’ll be booking bands for the place.

Several shows were canceled or postponed, but Aphrodesia was moved to 541 Lounge. The band is touring in support of “Lagos by Bus,” its new album that comes out Tuesday.

“Lagos by Bus” is an intoxicating mix of Afrobeat, highlife, Afro-Cuban sounds, jazz and other styles, inspired by the band’s recent trip to Africa, where it opened for Femi Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti and a star in his own right.

The show will begin at 9 p.m., and cover is $10.
