Salaam: From The Middle East To The Midwest

Salaam's "Layla" subtly transposes a genre of music few Americans are even aware of into a sonic realm that feels enchanting and exotic, while still strangely familiar. Led by by Dena El Saffar, a Chicago-born Iraqi-American, the group draws on the traditional music of Iraq and Egypt.
